Abhijit Patel, MD, PhD

Yale University
New Haven, CT

Associate Professor of Therapeutic Radiology, Yale School of Medicine

Dr. Patel is a radiation oncologist and physician-scientist at Yale University with scientific expertise in cancer genomics and nucleic acid biochemistry.

His lab's research is focused on developing and validating liquid biopsy technologies for early cancer detection and surveillance of residual or recurrent disease. Dr. Patel's group has recently developed a pan-cancer assay that can detect aberrant gene silencing patterns through untargeted capture of hypermethylated promoter sequences in cell-free DNA. His lab's work aims to enable more precise and noninvasive cancer management by improving the sensitivity and accessibility of ctDNA-based biomarkers for clinical application across diverse tumor types.

Dr. Patel completed residency training in Harvard Radiation Oncology Program, a transitional year internship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and obtained his MD, PhD, BS, and MS degrees at Yale University. As a physician-scientist, he also maintains an active clinical radiation oncology practice, with a clinical focus on genitourinary malignancies.
