Alexey Cherchik, Resident Physician
Dr. Alexey Cherchik is a resident physician in radiation oncology at the Paul Scherrer Institute’s Center for Proton Therapy in Switzerland. He earned his MD from Ural State Medical University in 2016. His clinical experience includes positions at the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncology Center, where he also served as Head of the Radiotherapy Department, and at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roytberg’s Clinic) in Moscow.
At PSI, Dr. Cherchik is involved in several international research projects focused on advanced proton therapy techniques. His primary clinical and research interests are head and neck cancers and pediatric oncology. He contributes to studies on daily online adaptive proton therapy, dose and LET metrics in relation to temporal lobe necrosis, and automatic treatment planning systems for intensity-modulated proton therapy. He also participates in pediatric-focused studies such as retrospective analyses of outcomes in children and adolescents with chordoma and chondrosarcoma.
In addition, he is part of collaborative efforts like the European Phase III PROTECT trial for esophageal cancer, and dual-energy CT delineation studies aiming to improve imaging accuracy in radiation treatment planning. His work bridges clinical practice and research, emphasizing precision and personalized approaches in proton therapy for complex cases.
