Andrew Groll, PhD
Andrew has over ten years of experience in experimental imaging, detector characterization, system integration, and algorithm development across x-ray, PET, MRI, and SPECT. He received his Ph.D. in Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he worked on x-ray fluorescence imaging and CdTe PET. He concurrently studied neuroengineering in an interdisciplinary UIUC pilot education program. After his Ph.D., Andrew transitioned to a post-doc/research scientist at Stanford University in the Department of Radiology. He led a small animal CZT PET system project and was a P.I. for the first-in-human translational studies of an MR-compatible brain-dedicated PET insert. Andrew also served as an educator teaching undergraduates, graduates, and medical residents the fundamentals of radiation detection and non-invasive imaging instrumentation, culminating in 8 years of teaching experience. He further served as a mentor having over 25 student mentees during his ten years in higher education.
