Ane Appelt, PhD

Rigshospitalet & Technical University of Denmark
Copenhagen, N/A

Dr Appelt is Professor of Clinical Medical Physics at Rigshospitalet and the Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen, DK; and Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds, UK. Since completing her clinical training in Denmark, she has trained and worked as a medical physics expert in both Denmark and the UK. She has an extensive research portfolio in radiotherapy innovation, with a particular focus on clinical trials & reirradiation. She has played a key international role in advancing reirradiation science and practice, e.g. through the ESTRO Physics Working Group on Reirradiation and the transatlantic Reirradiation Collaborative Group, both of which she co-founded. Her research links clinical practice with technological development; including deformable image registration, dose accumulation, and equieffective dose rescaling methodologies. Outside of reirradiation, much of her work centers on lower GI radiotherapy (particularly organ preservation in rectal cancer) and more general application of modern data science and biostat methodology to radiation oncology.
