Caroline Kernell, BS
Caroline Kernell is a medical student at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, pursuing an M.D. with Distinction in Global Health (anticipated 2026) and elected to both Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Her primary interest is global radiation oncology, with a focus on gynecologic cancers in low- and middle-income countries. Under the mentorship of Dr. Surbhi Grover at the University of Pennsylvania, she has led and contributed to multiple studies in Botswana on topics including induction chemotherapy during the COVID-19 pandemic, patterns of survivorship care, and delays in accessing and completing radiotherapy. She has presented her work at major international meetings such as ASTRO and ESMO Africa and published in journals including Gynecologic Oncology and Advances in Radiation Oncology. Caroline has also broadened her research experience through projects at MD Anderson Cancer Center evaluating the global distribution of radiotherapy clinical trials and earlier work in vascular biology and pulmonary medicine. Her career goals center on advancing equitable access to high-quality cancer care and integrating global health principles into the practice of radiation oncology.
