Cella Kove, BA
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
Philadephia, PA, United States
Cella is a Medical Physicist Assistant in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She is a graduate of Cornell University where she studied Physics with a Concentration in Computer Science and was also part of the prestigious College Scholar program where she pursued research spanning quantum computing and virtual reality. At Jefferson, she is a crucial member of the multi-institutional Eye Plaque Brachytherapy program with Wills Eye Hospital. She constructs plaques, conducts quality assurance (QA), and creates treatment plans for the program as well as optimizes clinical workflows via her in-house software. In addition to the Eye Plaque Brachytherapy program, she also conducts linear accelerator QA. Her research interests include dosimetry, radiotherapy plan quality, and Monte Carlo simulations. In June, she was awarded the American Brachytherapy Society Resident Travel Grant Award to attend the American Brachytherapy Society meeting. She gave an oral presentation on her work, “Convex-Surface-Loaded (Reverse) Episcleral Plaque Brachytherapy to Treat Conjunctival Tumors with Orbital Extension”. Her clinical experience early in her career has provided her with a unique combination of technical, research, and clinical expertise, allowing her to identify and pursue research questions with direct clinical impact. She is currently applying to PhD programs in medical and biological physics, where she hopes to investigate clinically relevant challenges in radiotherapy dosimetry, radiation biology, and treatment planning.
