Cristina DeCesaris, MD, a Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) physician, is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She is a member of the multidisciplinary Central Nervous System, Gynecology, and Pediatric teams.
Dr. DeCesaris received her medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed residency training at the University of Maryland, as well as having completed a clinical research fellowship through the University of Pennsylvania. She has additional training in scientific writing and editorial skills through ASCO and the Journal of Clinical Oncology, through which she also served as a mentor training young physicians in critical review of medical literature.
Her clinical expertise includes the use of advanced modalities such as stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), proton pencil-beam scanning (PBS) radiotherapy, and high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy. Her research focuses on adult and pediatric central nervous system and gynecologic malignancies, and she is the recipient of grant funding in support of and principal investigator on a multi-institutional clinical trial investigating vaginal cuff brachytherapy.
