Daniel Pyo is a medical student at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, with an expected graduation in 2029. He earned his B.S. in Physiology and Neurobiology from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2022, graduating with an Honors College Citation and Dean's List recognition. Daniel's research interests center on radiation oncology, particularly mechanisms of treatment resistance in cancer. He currently works as a Research Assistant in Dr. Reed McDonagh's lab at the University of Maryland, helping formulate a Phase 2 clinical trial on the use of proton therapy for osteoarthritis of the hands. In 2025, he was selected for the Radiation Oncology Summer Fellowship Program, where he studied the role of Caveolin-1 in radiation and chemotherapy resistance in non-small cell lung cancer under Dr. Hem Shukla and Dr. France Carrier. This work has been accepted for presentation at ASTRO 2026, UMSOM Student Research Day, and the Radiation Oncology Symposium. Earlier in his training, Daniel conducted immunology research in Dr. Naomi Taylor's lab in the Pediatric Oncology Branch at the NIH and studied child development in Dr. Rachel Romeo's lab at UMD.
