Dr. Erika Ruiz-García is a gastrointestinal medical oncologist and translational medicine researcher. She serves as the Chief Academic Officer, Head of the Translational Medicine Laboratory, and Professor in the Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology at INCan in Mexico City. She was the Educational Program Chair for the ASCO 2026 Annual Meeting and has also served on the ESMO Scientific Committee for Lower GI Tumors.


Her academic contributions are extensive, featuring 114 peer-reviewed publications in premier journals. She holds an H-index of 29 with more than 3,568 citations and edited the textbook Translational Research and Onco-Omics Applications (Springer Nature, 2019). Additionally, she has contributed to global clinical standards as an ASCO Guideline Panel Member for Adjuvant Therapy for Stage II and III Colon Cancer, Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer, and Resource-Stratified Treatment of Invasive Colorectal Cancer. She has also served as an expert Reviewer for the NCCN Framework for Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma and Gastric Cancer.


Dr. Ruiz-García has secured over $1 million USD in competitive research funding, serving as Mexico's Principal Investigator for the Horizon 2020 LEGACy consortium and Co-Investigator on an NIH-funded trial. Dedicated to advancing medical education, she has actively mentored numerous medical residents and acted as a thesis advisor for 24 graduates
