Felipe Castro Cánovas, MD, DRCPSC, is an attending radiation oncologist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (INEN) in Lima, Peru. He is a Diplomate in Brachytherapy of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and currently serves as Secretary of Scientific Affairs for the Peruvian Society of Radiation Oncology (SRPE). His clinical practice centers on ablative radiotherapy, with particular focus on gynecologic and genitourinary brachytherapy. Dr. Castro received his medical degree from Universidad Científica del Sur and completed his residency in radiation oncology at INEN/Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, where he served as chief resident coordinator. He subsequently completed a two-year brachytherapy fellowship at BC Cancer – Kelowna, University of British Columbia, during which he received the American Brachytherapy Society Resident Travel Grant Award and the UBC Dr. Thomas Keane Prize for the best presentation by a clinical research fellow. Upon returning to INEN, he assumed responsibility for coordinating the academic program of the radiation oncology residency. His research addresses health-related quality of life following LDR versus HDR prostate brachytherapy boost, and the clinical implementation of 3D-printed patient-specific applicators, including custom vaginal templates and smartphone-based geometry mapping for HDR skin brachytherapy. He has presented at the ASTRO, ABS, and CARO annual meetings and served as faculty for the 1st Latin American Masterclass in Brachytherapy.
