Harald Paganetti is Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School and the Chief of Physics Research for the Department of Radiation Oncology at Mass General Brigham. He received his Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics from the Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn, Germany, in 1992. He has been involved in radiation therapy research since 1994 and has made many significant contributions to the field of radiation oncology physics and biology, particularly in proton therapy. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles with an h-index of 95 and numerous book chapters and has edited 3 books on proton therapy. His research interests include planning and delivery uncertainties in radiotherapy, biological effect modeling, Monte Carlo simulations, as well as understanding radiation-induced toxicities and immune response. In 2022, he received the PTCOG Robert R. Wilson Award for significant contributions to the field of particle therapy. For his efforts in mentoring junior faculty, he received the A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award from Harvard Medical School. He has served on numerous task forces and committees for organizations such as the ICRU, ICRP, NCRP, NIH, IOMP, PTCOG, NRG, AAPM, and ASTRO. He is a fellow of ASTRO and a fellow of AAPM.
