Dr. Hongcheng Zhu is a clinical and radiation oncologist at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center in Shanghai, China. He earned his MD in 2013 and PhD in 2017 in Nanjing, China, and completed residency in radiation oncology in 2019 followed by a fellowship in 2023 at Fudan. Dr. Zhu was selected for the Global Health Leadership Development Program by the China Medical Board, which supported a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and affiliated sites in low- and middle-income countries. In 2024, he began a clinical fellowship at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, funded by the ESMO/ICF.


His research focuses on global oncology and radiation oncology, with particular emphasis on thoracic and gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Zhu has published original research, reviews, and book chapters in journals including Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology, Lancet Global Health, and Journal of Thoracic Oncology. He serves on editorial boards, leads multiple translational oncology projects, and has contributed to phase II and III clinical trials including the ESO-Shanghai series.


Dr. Zhu’s honors include the IASLC International Mentorship Program Award, ESMO Clinical/Translational Unit Visit Fellowship, CSCO “35 under 35” Young Investigator Award, and certificates from ESO/University of Zurich and Harvard Medical School. He is an active member of ESMO Young Oncologists and Membership Committees, ASTRO International Education Committee, and IASLC Multidisciplinary Clinical Science Committee.
