Igor Shuryak, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Center for Radiological Research,Columbia University Irving Medical Center. His training spans biology (BA, Columbia University), medicine (MD, SUNY Downstate College of Medicine), and quantitative science. He received his PhD with distinction in Environmental Health Sciences from Columbia's Mailman School of Public Health in 2010, for mechanistic mathematical modeling of radiation-induced carcinogenesis. His research combines mechanistic radiobiological dose-response models with modern causal inference methods, including double machine learning and causal forests, to estimate radiotherapy treatment effects and support personalized treatment planning. Recent work applies these methods to fractionation in head and neck cancer and to dose escalation in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer, using large registry cohorts. He has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed publications, and has received the Michael Fry Award and the Jack Fowler Award from the Radiation Research Society.
