John Hillson has been a registered nurse since 1998, taking his first job on a medical oncology floor that also admitted radiation oncology patients. He has worked in multiple radiation oncology departments as an RN including the Allen Blair Cancer Center in Regina, SK and Duke Radiation Oncology in NC. He has been a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and an Oncology Certified Nurse since 2002. He has contributed to radiation oncology nursing education projects for ONS and APSHO. In 2023, he graduated with an Adult Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, Doctor of Nursing Practice and his QI project was on developing and optimizing radiation oncology nursing education. Since 2023, he has been a nurse practitioner at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston Salem in radiation oncology with his practice focused primarily on head and neck cancer, and prostate cancer survivorship. He is a member of ROECSG and serves on ASTRO’s MDQA subcommittee.
