Loyola University Medical Center
Maywood, IL

Dr. John C. Roeske is the Bahman Emami Endowed Professor of Radiation Oncology, Vice-Chair for Medical Physics and Research, and the Director of the Radiation Oncology, Imaging, and Technology (ROIT) Research Program within the Cardinal Bernadin Cancer Center at Loyola University Chicago. He is a board-certified medical physicist with extensive clinical, academic, and research expertise in radiation oncology, advanced imaging, and computational modeling. Dr. Roeske’s research spans multiple domains in medical physics, with particular emphasis on real-time image guidance and adaptive radiotherapy. His group has developed innovative techniques for markerless tumor tracking (MTT), integrating dual-energy imaging in radiation therapy, physics-based modeling, and artificial intelligence to improve the precision and robustness of tumor localization during treatment. He is an NIH-funded investigator, with projects focused on developing clinical translation pathways for these technologies. In addition to his research leadership, Dr. Roeske has been a dedicated educator and mentor. He has mentored PhD students and post-doctoral fellows across disciplines and fosters collaborations that bridge physics, engineering, computer science, and clinical radiation oncology. Dr. Roeske is a Fellow of the AAPM, where he has held multiple leadership positions, including service on scientific and professional committees. His contributions to AAPM and ASTRO reflect his longstanding commitment to advancing the field of medical physics and radiation oncology, both scientifically and professionally. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and is the co-editor of two textbooks.
