Joost J.C. Verhoeff, MD, PhD, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Amsterdam UMC, where he leads a multidisciplinary team of more than 350 professionals across one of Europe’s largest radiotherapy programs. He also serves on the Executive Board of Cancer Center Amsterdam and chairs the Radiation Oncology Science Council of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).
Dr. Verhoeff’s clinical and scientific work focuses on precision radiotherapy for primary brain tumors, brain metastases, and cardiac arrhythmias. His research encompasses stereotactic and hypofractionated radiotherapy, MR-guided and online adaptive radiotherapy, integration with systemic therapies, and the translation of technological innovation into scalable clinical care. He is the founding coordinator of STOPSTORM, a European consortium of more than 50 centers developing evidence and international standards for stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation. As principal investigator and collaborator in numerous national and international clinical trials, Dr. Verhoeff aims to improve survival while minimizing treatment burden and toxicity. His broader ambition is to redefine radiotherapy through evidence-based innovation, automation, and personalized treatment strategies that preserve patients’ quality of life.
