Joseph Carmicheal is a current radiation oncology resident who completed MD/PhD training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He is interested in radiation sensitization and protection as well as translational research. His career plan is to be a competent and caring clinician able to provide excellent care to hi patients as well as a successful clinical investigator in the area of radiation oncology cancer treatment. Dr. Carmicheal's research has enhanced the understanding of ferroptosis involvement in radiation induced cell death and how that pathway can be manipulated for sensitizing or protection purposes for the treatment of pancreatic cancer, although he remains interested in a variety of disease sites. He has also contributed to four investigator-initiated trials and is currently listed as the secondary investigator on three of these. Additionally, he has a passion for teaching and facilitating undergraduate and medical student career growth and interest in radiation oncology.
