Katsuyuki Sakanaka, MD, PhD, is a radiation oncologist and clinical researcher specializing in gastrointestinal malignancies, particularly esophageal and rectal cancers. His work encompasses precision radiotherapy, chemoradiotherapy, palliative radiotherapy, and clinical trials ranging from phase I to multi-institutional phase III studies. He is principal investigator of JCOG2311 (ART NOUVEAU; PMID: 41331921), a randomized phase II trial of radiotherapy plus nivolumab and ipilimumab for advanced or recurrent esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and co-principal investigator of JCOG1904 (ARMADILLO; PMID: 37801434), a randomized phase III trial for early-stage esophageal cancer.
