Dr. Kilian E. Salerno is an Associate Research Physician and Clinical Director in the Radiation Oncology Branch at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD. Prior to joining the NIH, she was an attending physician at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY. Her clinical and research interests are in sarcoma, other rare tumors, breast, and gastrointestinal malignancies. She is an expert in the treatment and management of patients with soft tissue sarcoma and is actively involved in clinical trial design to optimize advanced radiation therapy, improve outcomes, and mitigate treatment-related toxicities. She was Vice-Chair and first author of the inaugural ASTRO Clinical Practice Guideline on Radiotherapy for Soft Tissue Sarcoma in Adults. She is Chair of the ASTRO Guidelines Subcommittee and Chair of the ASTRO Annual Meeting Scientific Committee for the Sarcoma and Cutaneous Tumors Track and serves as the Senior Editor for Sarcoma and Pediatrics on the editorial board for International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics. Dr. Salerno was the recipient of the 2024 NIH Director's Award in recognition of exceptional, compassionate patient-centered care, and extraordinary commitment to advancing clinical operations.
