Leah Thompson, MD, is an Assistant Attending Radiation Oncologist at the New York Proton Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY, where she also holds appointments as Assistant Research Professor and Assistant Member, respectively. She is board eligible by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology. Dr. Thompson earned her MD from Harvard Medical School and her BA summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Amherst College, where she received the Alfred F. Havighurst Prize. She completed her internal medicine internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and her residency, including a term as Education Chief Resident, in the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program.
Dr. Thompson’s research focuses on risk prediction and care optimization in geriatric oncology: identifying which older adults are at risk for suboptimal outcomes, and designing risk-stratified interventions to improve their care. She has developed and validated multimodal prognostic models integrating AI-derived biomarkers, including a radiographic thymic health measure and a facial photograph-based biological aging metric, with geriatric screening tools and patientreported outcomes to predict survival, toxicity, and recurrence in older adults with lung cancer. Her work on immune checkpoint inhibitor toxicity has linked adverse event phenotypes and specialist management to patient outcomes. She has been an investigator on several trials testing tailored interventions for older adults, including Lung-GAP (NCT06987890) and ELITE-GBM (NCT06835803).
