Lisa Kachnic, MD, FASTRO
Dr. Lisa Kachnic is the Department of Radiation Oncology Chair and Chu Chang Professor at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She focuses on the treatment of patients with gastrointestinal cancers and has been conducting research in patient outcomes, quality improvement, and treatment innovation for more than 20 years. Her research efforts have resulted in over 150 peer-reviewed publications and over $17 million in research support from federal agencies. Kachnic possesses extensive experience developing and executing phase I-III clinical trials through her current leadership roles within the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group - RTOG/NRG Oncology (current NCI Community Oncology Research Program [NCORP] Associate PI and Cancer Control Committee Chair, Member of the GI Committee), SWOG (Rectal/Anal Cancer Subcommittee Co-chair, Radiation Committee Vice Chair and an Executive Officer), and the NCI (Rectal/Anal Taskforce Member and former Vice Chair, previous PI of a Minority NCI Community Oncology Program). Dr. Kachnic is the former President, Governor, and Trustee of the American Board of Radiology. Over the last two decades, she has been very active in ASTRO, most recently as the Annual Meeting Scientific Committee of the Education Council Chair (2017-2020) and Vice Chair (2013-2017) and continues to serve as a Member of the GI Resource Panel. Mentorship of the next generation of radiation oncologists is Dr. Kachnics key focus in all clinical and research endeavors. As a testament to her efforts, she received the RTOG Next Generation Investigator Award in 2008, and the American Radiation Residents Organization (ARRO) Educator of the Year Award in 2018.
