Dr. Lori Pierce is a breast cancer radiation oncologist whose research focuses on cardiac-sparing treatment planning, the use of radiosensitizing agents, and the outcomes of women treated with radiation who are carriers of a breast cancer susceptibility gene. She is a member of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Scientific Advisory Board and the Damon Runyon Board. In 2018, she was elected president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and served as Chair of the ASCO Society Board (2021-22) and Past President and Chair of the Association Board (2022-23). She has published over 280 manuscripts and book chapters and has received numerous awards including the American Association for Women Radiologists’ Marie Curie Award, the Conquer Cancer Foundation Endowed Women Who Conquer Cancer Mentorship Award, selection as a Susan G. Komen for the Cure Scholar, and the 2025 Elis Berven Award from the Swedish Society of Oncology. Dr. Pierce was elected to the National Academy of Medicine, Class of 2018 and was the recipient of the 2021 American Society for Radiation Oncology Gold Medal Award. In 2022, she received the OncLive Giants of Cancer Care, Community Outreach, Education and Cancer Policy Award. Recently, she received the Duke University Medical Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award. She is a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Radiation Oncology, and the American Association for Cancer Research.
