Dr. Matthew J. Farrell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he also serves as an Associate Residency Program Director for the Radiation Oncology Residency Program. He earned a BA at Stanford University and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Oregon, and he completed medical school at Oregon Health & Science University and residency training in radiation oncology at UCLA. His academic interests include narrative medicine, health-related quality of life, palliative medicine, and tumors of the central nervous system. In addition to authoring scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, he has published essays, poems, and stories in The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Practical Radiation Oncology, Annals of Internal Medicine, and other academic and literary journals. As a proponent of person-centered oncology, he knows that everyone has a story.
