Melinda Mushonga, MD

Dr Melinda Mushonga is an early career clinical oncologist who completed medical training including Residency in radiation oncology at the University of Zimbabwe attaining certification as a Clinical Oncologist in Zimbabwe, February 2020. She proceeded to pursue a clinical fellowship in September 2020 at PMH completing a 1-year clinical attachment with the breast site group in September 2021. She is currently at Sunnybrook OCC with Lung site group. Her research interest is advancing the evidence base for personalized treatment strategies in radiation oncology guided by tumor biology with the goal of improving patient experience in breast and lung cancer treatment through inclusive collaborative clinical research which promotes equity in quality cancer care narrowing disparities in outcomes. Therefore, making clinical research accessible to marginalized cancer patients is a career goal. Foundational research work with accompanying publications completed in Zimbabwe explored patterns of care in breast cancer management from a low resource setting to guide work that closes the gap in cancer care.
