Mustafa Basree is a senior resident in radiation oncology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. His clinical and academic interests include gastrointestinal and oligometastatic cancers, brachytherapy, and leveraging the synergy between radiation and immunotherapy to advance care. He has led and contributed to multiple retrospective and prospective studies, including investigator-initiated clinical trials in pancreatic cancer and MRI-guided liver SBRT. His research experience spans both bench and clinical work—from mammary gland biology and the role of breastfeeding in triple-negative breast cancer to early-phase trials.


In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Basree is committed to medical education and physician leadership. He served on the Executive Committee of the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) where he was the Chair of the Education Subcommittee. In that role, he collaborated with ROCESG, ABS, and other residents to improve resident education nationally. He is also the current ASTRO Government Relations Fellow, where he is actively engaged in advocacy work and health policy.


Dr. Basree completed his internal medicine internship at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. He earned his medical degree from the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and a master’s degree in anatomy from The Ohio State University. Originally from Baghdad, Iraq, he immigrated to the United States more than 16 years ago. Outside of medicine, he enjoys hiking, biking, and exploring the outdoors with his wife Michelle, daughter Mia, and their rescue dog Eddy.
