Dr. Nilendu Gupta is a Professor at The Ohio State University, James Cancer Hospital in the Department of Radiation Oncology, with over thirty years of experience in clinical medical physics. In his leadership role as a Chief Medical Physicist, and later the Vice Chair of Radiation Oncology, he has been involved with strategic planning for departmental programs, recruitment, and design, construction, equipment installation planning and clinical go live for three new cancer center buildings, including the Proton Therapy center, and an outreach cancer center. He has also been a life long educator, teaching various training programs, including starting a Medical Physics residency training program at OSU two decades ago, and serves as the program director for this accredited training program.
Nationally, Dr. Gupta serves as a member of the board of directors and is a residency site reviewer for CAMPEP, and also serves at different capacities at the AAPM, and the ABR. He was inducted as a Fellow of the AAPM in 2018. He has been a past president of the AAPM ORVC.
His current research interests are in the optimization of chemo radiation strategies, development of radiation measurement systems in biology and medicine, FLASH radiotherapy, Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, development of clinical treatment planning methods and development of clinical trials in the department. He received his B.Tech.(Hons) in Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India. His M.S., Biomedical Engineering (Medical Physics), and Ph.D., Biomedical Eng. (Medical Physics), are both from The Ohio State University.
