Pauline De Bruyn, MD, is currently a Radiation Oncology resident at Institut Jules Bordet (HUB, Brussels) and a PhD candidate in Medical Sciences at Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Since 2023, she has been conducting research within the PROCADI project on quality of life in prostate cancer patients, radiotherapy-induced side effects, and the interplay between nutrition, physical activity, and the gut microbiota. She is also involved in a preclinical research project at the CR-CHUM (Montréal, Canada) within Prof. Saad's team, investigating how physical activity and a high-fat diet influence prostate cancer progression through the gut microbiota, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), systemic inflammation, and antitumor immune responses. Her doctoral work is also supported by the multicenter randomized phase II/III StereoBed trial, sponsored by Institut Jules Bordet, evaluating salvage stereotactic body radiotherapy after radical prostatectomy. She contributes to research on patient-reported outcomes, treatment-related toxicity, and quality of life, and is presenting the planned phase II interim analysis at ASTRO 2026.
She obtained her MD from Université catholique de Louvain in 2017 and completed the BeSTRO Certificate in Radiation Oncology (2023, High Distinction), an Inter-University Certificate in Clinical Nutrition (2022, ULB–UCL–ULiège), and certificates in Radioprotection and Biostatistics (ULB, 2024–2025).
Her research aims to develop multidisciplinary, patient-centered strategies to optimize radiotherapy, reduce treatment-related toxicities, and investigate lifestyle-based interventions for men with prostate cancer. She has presented her work internationally and received the 2023 SFNCM/Nestlé Health Science Research Award for research on dietary prevention of radiotherapy side effects.
