Ramesh Gopal, MD, PhD

Dr. Gopal is an attending physician and Associate Professor in Radiation Oncology at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is board-certified in radiation oncology. After completing a PhD in Molecular Pharmacology and Biological Chemistry from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, he completed a radiation oncology residency program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. His current clinical focus is on breast, lung, and prostate cancers. His research centers on patient use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to learn about medical questions and how this compares with information provided by physicians. He is also interested in the logistics of MR-Linac utilization in the radiation oncology clinic. Dr. Gopal leads the Community Oncology Working Group (COWG) of the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center and has been elected to the Board of Directors of the New Mexico Cancer Research Alliance. He is a medical student preceptor and mentors medical students, residents and fellows.
