Dr. Mutter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Mayo Clinic where he leads the enterprise-wide Radiation Oncology Breast Cancer Group. Dr. Mutter specializes in the development of novel treatment delivery techniques and fractionation schedules to reduce side effects of radiotherapy. For example, Dr. Mutter studies particle therapy from multiple points of view, such as optimizing patient selection, combined modality therapy, and integrating proton therapy with breast reconstruction. In addition, Dr. Mutter's laboratory investigates ways to overcome therapeutic resistance in high risk breast cancer through an improved understanding of cancer biology, including the interplay between the cellular response to DNA damage and the anti-tumor immune response.
