Sai Kumar Samala, MD
UTHealth Houston, Houston, TX
Dr. Sai Kumar Samala is a radiation oncologist and research scholar at UTHealth Houston, working in Dr. Sunil Krishnan’s Nanotechnology and Translational Radiation Oncology Lab. He received his MD in Radiation Oncology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, where he trained extensively in advanced radiotherapy techniques and gained clinical expertise in neuro-oncology and gastrointestinal cancers.
His current research centers on radiosensitization strategies in pancreatic and brain tumors, with a focus on DDR1-mediated tumor–stroma interactions, immune exclusion, and nanotechnology-based therapeutic approaches. He integrates in vitro, in vivo, and computational methods to explore mechanisms of radioresistance and to identify opportunities to enhance immunotherapy synergy.
As an aspiring physician-scientist, Dr. Samala aims to bridge clinical care with translational research, advancing precision radiation oncology and developing innovative therapeutic strategies for hard-to-treat cancers.
