EDU 30 - Management of Locally Recurrent Head and Neck Cancer

05:00pm - 06:00pm PT

MODERATOR(S)

Monica Shukla, MD - Medical College of Wisconsin

session DESCRIPTION

Locally recurrent HNSCC in the setting of prior radiation therapy is a challenging clinical scenario. In this session we propose to present two variants of locally recurrent HNSCC after prior RT and explore the use of surgery, re-irradiation and systemic therapy either alone or in combination with one another supported by available data. Session will have a moderator, one HN surgeon, one HN Rad/Onc and one HN Med/Onc. HN Rad/Onc will cover re-RT with use of IMRT, SBRT and Proton Therapy.

learning objectives

  1. Understand how to best sequence available treatment modalities (surgery, reirradiation and systemic therapy) in locally recurrent HSCC in the setting of prior RT.
  2. Understand available re-irradiation modalities and their safety and efficacy data. Understand why one would/should pick one re-irradiation modality over another.
  3. Understand the role/limitations of systemic therapy and salvage surgery in the treatment of locally recurrent HNSCC in the setting of prior RT.
