International 05 - International Guidelines and High-quality Standards for Treating Patients with GYN Cancers - Implementation in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
MODERATOR(S)
Manjeet Chadha, MD, FASTRO - Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center
session DESCRIPTION
Cancer Treatment Guidelines are drafted to ensure appropriate use of existing evidence and promote safe practice. While guidelines strive to keep pace with research and new technology, they often dont address the ground level situation in community practice especially for LMIC. Recent European quality indicators for radiotherapy of cervix cancer strive to recommend ideals for imaging, chemo and radiotherapies which may be difficult to meet even in resource constrained underserved areas of the U.S. - for e.g., 50-day treatment completion for >90% pts with cervix cancer. The development of molecular directed therapies for advanced endometrial cancers have out fringed the role of radiotherapy in practice and brought upfront costly immunotherapy regimens prematurely in the adjuvant setting resulting in dilemma for management in LMIC. Even modified pan-Asian guidelines look almost like their parent European guidelines raising questions about practical applicability. This session will address international quality measures and guidelines from providers in LMIC from three different continents. We will also look at resource-constrained guidelines and ascertain applicability in different situation especially with a view to cervix and endometrial cancer. The expert panelists will also look at new technology/alternative methods to meet these new quality standards and discuss methods they use in their practice to achieve optimal treatment for their patients.
learning objectives
- Become familiar with recent changes in quality indicators and updates for cervix and endometrial cancer radiation and associated systemic therapies.
- Dissect the various resource constrained guidelines for these cancers.
- Become updated on methods/techniques being utilized in LMIC to meet quality indicators like hypofractionation, auto-planning AI, cheaper techniques for molecular analysis.
