PRO 11 - Reviving the Value of Radiation Therapy in Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma (cSCCa): From Early to Late Stage Disease and Everything in Between

02:15pm - 03:30pm PT

MODERATOR(S)

Arshin Sheybani, MD - John Stoddard Cancer Center

session DESCRIPTION

This session will be a case based discussion on the role of radiation therapy in the treatment of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. We will have three academic physicians representing three different geographic locations within the United States, from the east coast, west coast and sun belt region. The session will begin with reviewing the role of definitive radiation therapy in early stage disease and how it compares with other local therapies as well as the use of newer technologies (i.e., image-guided superficial radiation therapy). Next we will focus on the role of radiation in the adjuvant setting, including the role of further work up in high risk patients and when to cover elective volumes. Finally we will discuss the benefit of radiation therapy in advanced stage disease as well as integrating with systemic therapies.

learning objectives

  1. Explain pros and cons of different local therapies for early stage cSCCa.
  2. Determine appropriate work up, treatment volumes and doses of radiation therapy for adjuvant treatment of cSCCa.
  3. Identify the role and benefit of therapy in advanced stage disease of cSCCa.
