Stephen Shiao, MD, PhD
Stephen Shiao MD, PhD is a radiation oncologist and immunologist who joined Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after completing his training at UCSF Medical Center. He is the Barth Family Chair in Cancer Research, Professor and Director of Basic Science Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Co-Leader of the Cancer Therapeutics Program for the Cedars-Sinai Cancer Center. His lab studies the role of the immune system in regulating the response to cytotoxic therapy using mouse models and early phase clinical trials. More specifically, supported by grants from the NCI and the DoD, recent work for the laboratory has shed light on the role of macrophages, the microbiome and how their interactions determine the response to radiation.
