Emory Proton Therapy Center
Atlanta, Georgia
Dr. Suk Whan (Paul) Yoon is an ABR-certified medical physicist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine, where he also serves as Associate Director of the Emory Medical Physics Certificate Program. His clinical and research focus centers on proton therapy, re-irradiation physics consultation, and clinical automation — including scripted workflows in RayStation and Eclipse and novel applications of large language models for radiation therapy planning and quality assurance. Dr. Yoon received his B.S. in Physics and B.A. in Chemistry from Emory University, and his Ph.D. in Medical Physics from Duke University, where his work was recognized with the Best Paper in Radiation Therapy award by the Southeastern Chapter of AAPM. He has held clinical appointments at the Emory Proton Therapy Center and Emory Saint Joseph Hospital, gaining broad expertise in proton therapy, HDR brachytherapy, and advanced photon platforms. His research spans 3D printing applications in proton therapy and brachytherapy, deformable image registration for re-irradiation, and AI-driven treatment planning. He is a co-inventor on two issued U.S. patents in photodynamic cancer therapy and has published in journals including Medical Physics and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics.
