Dr. Williams’ is a Professor and board-certified radiation oncologist whose clinical practice centers on thoracic and gastrointestinal malignancies. He serves as Chair of Radiation Oncology at City of Hope National Medical Center. His clinical research efforts center on experimental therapeutics in combination with radiation. He also actively involved in NCI-sponsored NCTN cooperative groups (NRG Oncology, Alliance) and national trials testing novel immunotherapy agents in combination with radiation. Dr. Williams also serves as a Permanent Member on the NIH Radiation Therapeutics and Biology Study Section (RTB), and as ASTRO Biology Co-Chair. His laboratory research projects include investigating oncogene-mediated radioresistance; studying caveolins and caveolae-related endocytosis and their importance with regards to tumor progression and response to therapy; the rational development of novel therapeutic combinations of molecularly-targeted agents and radiation; molecular profiling of lung and gastrointestinal malignancies using systems-based approaches to prognosticate and predict clinical outcomes; developing immunotherapy biomarkers in lung cancer; and identifying novel DNA repair pathways/functions and their relationship to cancer development and therapeutic response.
Dr. Williams has co-authored more than 100 articles appearing in Journal of Clinical Oncology, PNAS, Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Research, Journal of Clinical Investigation, JAMA journals, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Cancer, IJROBP, Radiotherapy and Oncology, Molecular Biology of the Cell, and Molecular Cancer Therapeutics. His research is funded by NIH/NCI, ACS, ASTRO, RSNA, ASCO, Radiation Oncology Institute (ROI), Varian Medical Systems, Florida Biomedical Research Program, Alliance Oncology, NRG Oncology, NCCN, Celgene, and OSU-CCC.
