Valerie Gallegos is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Sciences at Weill Cornell. Her thesis work consists of identifying radiosensitizers utilizing patient-derived tumor organoids to improve therapeutic responses in colorectal, lung, and germ cell cancers. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). During her undergraduate training, she conducted research on the effects of metronomic chemotherapy in colorectal cancer models. Throughout her academic career, Valerie has been selected for multiple NIH-sponsored training programs, including the MARC program at UTEP, the T32 Weill Cornell Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD), and the TL1 Weill Cornell Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) fellowship. Valerie has contributed to various research projects spanning tumor-stromal interactions, patient-derived model development, and therapeutic screening.
