Wilmene S. Hercule is a third-year medical student at Rush Medical College with a strong focus on health equity, community-based care, and oncology research. They previously served as a medic and service coordinator at the Berkeley Free Clinic in California, where they led efforts to restore and expand free TB testing for uninsured and unhoused patients. At Rush, they have held multiple leadership roles, including Mentorship Chair for the Student National Medical Association, where they launched support programs for underrepresented and non-traditional students, and Co-President of Rush Pride, where they helped grow LGBTQ+ student initiatives. They also volunteer with the Center for Trauma Recovery, connecting patients affected by gun violence to free therapy services.

As a recipient of the ASCO Medical Student Rotation award, Wilmene leads a retrospective chart review investigating how race and hormone receptor-positive breast cancer subtypes influence adherence to oral endocrine therapy, with the goal of developing patient-centered educational materials. Their broader research and clinical interests lie in addressing cancer disparities through both structural and scientific approaches. These experiences reflect their long-standing commitment to advocacy, mentorship, and inclusive oncology care.
