Yukine Shimizu is currently a PhD student in medical physics at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine in Kyoto, Japan. She earned her Master of Science degree from Kyoto University and has passed the certification examination administered by the Japanese Board of Medical Physics. She is also enrolled in Kyoto University's accredited Medical Physics Training Course, where she is receiving clinical and technical training toward certification as a medical physicist.
Her research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence to motion-managed radiotherapy and real-time IGRT. Her current project investigates patient-specific deep learning models for markerless dynamic tumor tracking during VMAT, with a particular focus on YOLO-based architectures trained using DRRs generated from 4D-CT images and augmented through contrast variation.
By supporting accurate tumor tracking across continuously changing fluoroscopic viewing angles, this approach has the potential to eliminate the need for invasive fiducial marker implantation and avoid associated complications. Through this research, she aims to improve the accuracy of real-time tumor tracking and contribute to safer and more effective radiation therapy.
