Zenan Sun is a PhD candidate and Graduate Research Assistant at the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics (MSBMI) at UTHealth Houston. Currently serving as an intern in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics at the Mayo Clinic, his career focuses on leveraging advanced artificial intelligence to optimize clinical research and medical workflows. Zenan earned his Master of Science degree prior to his doctoral studies, which he expects to complete in 2027. His primary research expertise lies in biomedical machine learning, large language models (LLMs), medical ontologies, and medical image segmentation. His recent technical work also includes presenting novel methodologies on boundary-privileged knowledge distillation for compact 3D nnU-Net architectures. Through his research, Zenan aims to advance the capabilities of explainable, graph-based AI foundation models in healthcare.
