Jongmyung Kim, MD, PhD
Jongmyung Kim, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified radiation oncologist with expertise in the treatment, management, and prevention of primary and metastatic lung cancers. He is an Assistant Member in the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Immunology at Moffitt Cancer Center and an Assistant Professor of Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine.
Dr. Kim earned his MD-PhD from Pusan National University School of Medicine and completed postdoctoral research in cancer stem cell biology at the Cleveland Clinic, Moffitt Cancer Center, and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. He then pursued a surgical internship at the University of Louisville, followed by a Radiation Oncology residency at Rutgers Cancer Institute/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he served as Chief Resident. Earlier in his career, Dr. Kim served as a Sergeant in the 8th U.S. Army through the KATUSA program, receiving U.S. Army Achievement Medals in 2003 and 2004.
His research focuses on novel theranostic strategies for lung cancer, employing phage display technologies to engineer tumor-specific peptides for peptide-directed immuno-radiotherapy and bispecific antibodies, along with radiation-guided immune modulation to enhance anti-tumor immunity. His work has been published in leading journals such as Cancer Cell, Science Translational Medicine, and Stem Cells.
Dr. Kim is a member of ASTRO’s Education Committee and Moffitt’s Scientific Review Committee and directs the Resident Radiation Biology Course. His contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the 2023 ASTRO Recognition Award, the 2023 KASTRO Research Grant Award, and the 2022 RSNA Roentgen Research Award.
