Kunika Chahal, MPH, BEng

Kunika Chahal, MPH is a fourth-year medical student at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and a graduate of the SUNY Downstate School of Public Health, where she earned a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. She is an aspiring radiation oncologist dedicated to advancing equity in cancer care by addressing barriers to treatment access among underserved populations.




Her research centers on social and structural determinants of health disparities, outcomes research, and implementation science. She has co-authored six peer-reviewed publications, and her work has been presented at multiple national conferences. She is the recipient of several honors and grants, including the ASTRO Medical Student Fellowship Award for her work on premature treatment termination in radiation patients, the William M. McCormack Research Scholarship, and the SUNY Downstate Health Equity Scholar Award.




She earned her B.E. in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Writing and Rhetoric from Stony Brook University, where she also participated in global health initiatives in Kenya and Tanzania. Passionate about interdisciplinary care, she aims to integrate engineering, public health, and medicine to develop comprehensive cancer care systems for vulnerable communities.
