Leith Rankine is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research focusses on quantifying and potentially reducing radiation-induced lung injury from thoracic radiation therapy. More specifically, he is investigating the relationship between dose delivered to healthy lung tissue and the resulting regional changes in pulmonary gas exchange, and how this information might guide thoracic treatment planning. These studies are made possible by the advanced functional mapping afforded by hyperpolarized 129Xe MRI. When not researching, Leiths hobbies include martial arts, hiking, and traveling.
