Dr. Nimita Shinde is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in collaboration with Monash University in 2023, following her M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from IIT Bombay, where she was awarded the Institute Silver Medal. Her research lies at the intersection of operations research, optimization, and medical physics, with a focus on developing mathematical optimization and quantum-inspired computational methods for radiation therapy treatment planning.
Dr. Shinde's research spans mixed-integer programming, convex and nonconvex optimization, quantum optimization, and inverse treatment planning for proton and spatially fractionated radiotherapy. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Medical Physics, Physics in Medicine & Biology, Scientific Reports, International Journal of Particle Therapy, and Advances in Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS). Her work has been recognized with honors, including the 2026 ASTRO–BCRF Trainee Travel Award and the IIT Bombay IEOR Alumnus Endowment Excellence in Doctoral Dissertation Award. Her research aims to advance clinically deployable optimization algorithms for next-generation radiation therapy planning.
