EC 03 - A Dose of Poetry: A Poetry Workshop Hosted by the Red Journal
session DESCRIPTION
Are you terrified of poetry based on traumatizing high-school English classes? Or are you a seasoned veteran of creative writing? No matter your background, this poetry workshop is for you! A small but growing body of literature supports the value of Poetic Medicine in increasing empathy, reducing stress, and strengthening therapeutic bonds with patients. In this workshop, we will introduce Poetic Medicine, practice close reading skills, review our experience with the new Red Journal Poetry section, describe publication tips and tricks, engage in a writing exercise, and dive into a creative writing workshop, in which you can voluntarily share your writing and receive nonjudgmental feedback. There is no prework required, but if you have been working on a poem and would like feedback, please bring it. We hope to encourage budding poets and cultivate an artistic community within radiation oncology. This event is in-person only and will not be livestreamed or available onDemand.
