session DESCRIPTION
Building and maintaining professional networks is a cornerstone of success in radiation oncology but is rarely taught in a formal setting. Networking is critical not only for academic productivity and leadership development but also for community engagement, clinical growth, and multidisciplinary collaboration. This session will provide practical strategies for cultivating meaningful professional relationships at multiple levels: Academic and Organizational Networking - engaging in multicenter research, national committees, and professional societies to create opportunities for scholarship and leadership; Clinical and Community Networking - building referral patterns and collaborative relationships with local and regional providers to improve patient access and continuity of care; Mentorship and Sponsorship - developing mutually beneficial mentorship and sponsorship relationships to support advancement at all stages of practice. Through presentations and discussion from panelists representing diverse practice settings and career stages, participants will gain actionable insights into how to begin building networks, sustain collaborations, and leverage opportunities for leadership. This session aims to equip attendees—especially early-career physicians and trainees—with strategies to proactively shape their careers while also providing mid- and late-career practitioners with new approaches to sustaining professional growth.
