EDU 06 - Real-Time, Real-World Impact: How a Radiation Oncology Quality Collaborative, MROQC, is Shaping the Future of Radiation Oncology

04:45pm - 06:00pm PT

MODERATOR(S)

Shruti Jolly, MD, MBA - University of Michigan

session DESCRIPTION

The Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consortium (MROQC) is a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan-Blue Care Network (BCBSM-BCN) sponsored Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI). It comprises 25 Radiation Oncology academic and community practice facilities across Michigan, working together to identify best practices and guide the appropriate use of high-cost technology in radiation treatment. Since its inception in 2011, MROQC has collected real-world, real-time prospective data for nearly 40,000 patients spanning breast, lung, prostate cancers, and bone metastases. Unlike clinical trial data, which can take years to implement, real-world data provides immediate, actionable insights. This session will demonstrate how MROQC integrates patient-reported (PROs) and physician-reported outcomes to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice. It will also explore how payer-provider collaborations support a sustainable framework for quality improvement. Attendees will leave with practical strategies to enhance patient care using real-world data, along with insights on overcoming barriers to implementing quality metrics and achieving equity across diverse populations.

learning objectives

  1. Identify key strategies for developing and sustaining successful collaborative quality improvement programs.
  2. Evaluate the role of real-world data in reducing treatment-related toxicities and hospitalizations.
  3. Apply evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety, improve quality of care, and ensure equitable access to radiation therapy.
