EDU 06 - Real-Time, Real-World Impact: How a Radiation Oncology Quality Collaborative, MROQC, is Shaping the Future of Radiation Oncology
MODERATOR(S)
Shruti Jolly, MD, MBA - University of Michigan
session DESCRIPTION
The Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consortium (MROQC) is a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan-Blue Care Network (BCBSM-BCN) sponsored Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI). It comprises 25 Radiation Oncology academic and community practice facilities across Michigan, working together to identify best practices and guide the appropriate use of high-cost technology in radiation treatment. Since its inception in 2011, MROQC has collected real-world, real-time prospective data for nearly 40,000 patients spanning breast, lung, prostate cancers, and bone metastases. Unlike clinical trial data, which can take years to implement, real-world data provides immediate, actionable insights. This session will demonstrate how MROQC integrates patient-reported (PROs) and physician-reported outcomes to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice. It will also explore how payer-provider collaborations support a sustainable framework for quality improvement. Attendees will leave with practical strategies to enhance patient care using real-world data, along with insights on overcoming barriers to implementing quality metrics and achieving equity across diverse populations.
learning objectives
- Identify key strategies for developing and sustaining successful collaborative quality improvement programs.
- Evaluate the role of real-world data in reducing treatment-related toxicities and hospitalizations.
- Apply evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety, improve quality of care, and ensure equitable access to radiation therapy.
