MODERATOR(S)

Zachary White, MD, MS - Stanford Health Care

session DESCRIPTION

Workforce diversity is an important core value of ASTRO. This storytelling session is submitted on behalf of the ASTRO History committee and focuses on the history and contributions of the three ASTRO African American Gold Medalists (Carl Mansfield, MD; Lori Pierce, MD; Mack Roach, MD). The storytelling format will first provide data on trends of racial/ethnic representation in radiation oncology. The storytelling format will engage resident/early career radiation oncologists as facilitators in conversation with each living Gold Medalist in order to highlight contributions of the leader, advances in radiation oncology and lessons gained. For the career journey and contributions of Dr. Carl Mansfield (deceased) contributions will be posthumously presented using archival sources including a 2009 interview recorded at the 51st ASTRO Annual meeting by Iris Gibbs, MD, and Karen Winkfield, MD, PhD. Future sessions will focus on other underrepresented and marginalized groups within radiation oncology.
