PRO 10 - Practical Management Strategies for Advanced Stage Gynecologic Cancer Patients

session DESCRIPTION

For the practical radiation oncology program, this session would include three speakers for education on the following complex presentations for managing advanced stage gynecologic cancer patients. 1) Kevin Albuquerque, MD Radiotherapy across the spectrum of metastatic GYN malignancies: A case-based discussion of the definitive management strategies for oligometastatic cervical cancer and the role of SBRT/high dose RT in oligometastatic, oligoprogressive, and bulky pelvic tumors in GYN malignancies. 2) Dominique Rash, MD Salvaging the primary: definitive reirradiation or palliation? A case-based discussion of the considerations and calculations that are performed when addressing central recurrences following initial pelvic radiation with either external beam radiation or combined EBRT and brachytherapy. This will include a discussion of the goal EQD2 doses for both the target volumes and the organs at risk, and the additional challenges of approaching such patients in the context of recent systemic therapy advances. 3) Sage Bolte, PhD Management of sexual side effects of radiotherapy and progressive disease for the advanced stage patient: A certified sex therapist will provide practical recommendations for counseling and resources for patients suffering from side effects of progressive cancer and therapy with respect to sexual health and menopause symptoms.

  1. Approach a patient with oligometastatic cervical and endometrial cancer with a strategy that expands upon palliation.
  2. Consider the approach to reirradiation for patients with GYN malignancies.
