Dr. Tom Appleton is passionate about rheumatology research, communication, and clinical care. He is Head of the Division of Rheumatology at Western University and SJHC London. As a clinician scientist, his research focuses on innate immune mechanisms of inflammation and metabolic disease in osteoarthritis and other forms of arthritis. Tom is involved internationally in steering the development of international classification criteria for early-stage OA through the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI), and OA clinical practice guidelines through the American College of Rheumatology (ACR). He also serves as chair of the Integrated Scientific and Medical Advisory Council for Arthritis Society Canada, and chair of the Clinical Informatics Committee at the Ontario Rheumatology Association.
